Consumer unit (fuse board) upgrades in London
Replace an outdated fuse box with a modern consumer unit, with the right circuit protection, clear labelling and testing. Honest advice and a clear quote first.

What this service covers
The consumer unit, often still called the fuse board, is where power enters your property and is shared out between your circuits. An older unit may not have the protection a modern installation expects. We replace outdated units with modern consumer units that include appropriate circuit protection, such as RCDs and RCBOs, and surge protection where it is required.
Every job starts with an assessment of your existing installation, so the quote reflects what your property actually needs. When the new unit is in, we inspect and test the work and provide the certification that goes with it. If something needs attention first, such as earthing or bonding, we explain it and agree any extra cost with you before going ahead.
Signs you may need a new consumer unit
- You still have a fuse box with rewirable fuse carriers
- Circuits trip often, or will not reset
- The casing is cracked, scorched or warm to the touch
- You are adding circuits for a kitchen or extension
- An electrical condition report (EICR) recommended an upgrade

Questions we hear about this service
How do I know if I need a new consumer unit?
Common signs are a fuse box with rewirable fuses, a cracked or scorched casing, no residual current (RCD) protection and circuits that trip often. An EICR will tell you for certain.
What is an RCD?
A residual current device switches a circuit off very quickly if it detects current leaking to earth, for example through a faulty appliance. Modern consumer units include this kind of protection.
How much does a new consumer unit cost?
Prices start from £450 and are typically £450 to £750, depending on the property and the installation. We assess the existing installation first and give you a clear quote before any work begins.
Will the power be off while you work?
Yes, for part of the job while the old unit is swapped. We agree timing with you beforehand so you can plan around it.
